Penguin Flight

Article text
A few weeks ago, I attended a workshop where Ian Coleman was teaching us how to paint the effects of being underwater. This was such a fascinating subject that I was determined to try out the idea, with the reference of some King Penguins I'd recently seen at Birdland in the Cotswolds.
I started the picture as a pastel drawing demonstration for the Nicholas Park WI in Nuneaton, and after another day's work, was quite pleased with the results, attempting to show the birds "in flight" under the Antarctic waters.
This will probably be the closest I get to scuba-diving with penguins!
