Watching a Barn Owl at Dawn
Moonlit Hunter
11/12/2020
Watching a Barn Owl at very early light one morning last month, I was
inspired to make a paper cut of the experience.
By working in layers of pre-painted paper, I formed the bird's feathers
and face, cutting and sticking layers which overlapped each other.
I was trying to show the beautiful patterns on its wing, and pictured
it with a full moon behind it, on an old log, with autumn leaves to
echo the colours on the bird.
The paper was coloured with watercolours and coloured pencil, and
folded and creased to add texture.
The whole picture forms a slightly 3D effect of between one & two
inches in depth.
