Grebe family nesting on an island

Great-Crested Grebes

A few weeks ago I visited Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottingham,
which is a wonderful place to see all sorts of birds and insects, with many
lakes, the River Trent, woods and grassland.

Plenty of colourful damselflies were about, as well as early butterflies, and
a variety of birds on the water and flying about, many with large families
of youngsters.

One family of Great-Crested Grebes had built their nest on a tiny island,
and were incubating three or four large mottled eggs, so hopefully it
won't be long before they have youngsters of their own.
