Cutting paper heron on nest
Paper cut demonstration
06/07/2023
I recently took part in Warwickshire Open Studios along with a large group
of other artists, at the Alexandra Arts venue in Rugby.
We were open for two long weekends over 8 days, and during that time I
was able to work right through a large paper cut, depicting a heron in a tree,
based on the heronry at Middleton Lakes, which I visited back in March.
Using paper which I had coloured, I cut to make two layers of twiggy tree,
and a very twiggy nest which the heron occupied.
The most interesting part was making the nest - weaving thin strips of brown
paper into a nest shape - I now have great admiration for birds which do this
with only a beak to help them!
